'Visiting' Thai Schools

STUDENT WORKSHEET

Introduction

Thai Teenager One of the best ways to find out about Thai students is by finding out about their schools and comparing them with your own.

Tasks

  1. Think about your school and answer the following questions.

    • Imagine that you are showing a friend around your school. What four parts or aspects of the school would you emphasise? List them.

    • Now imagine that you have been asked to show an important guest around your school. What four parts or aspects would you make sure to include on the tour? List them.

    • Are the four parts or aspects the same in both cases? If not, why not? Discuss your reasons.

  2. Visit at least two Thai school websites and comment on the following aspects of each school:
    • size
    • appearance
    • subjects taught
    • equipment
    • values
    • the image being projected
    • any other interesting aspects.

Visit the excellent site created by the Sriwittayapaknam School (http://www.sriwittayapaknam.ac.th/homepage.html). You can also 'visit' a few other Thai schools at the Bangkok Post website (http://www.bangkokpost.com/education/visit02.htm).

  3. Create an advertising brochure for your own school that can be sent to parents of prospective students.

    • What would be the advantages and disadvantages for parents of relying on this brochure to make a decision about sending their children to the school?

    • What other strategies would you advise parents to use to find out more information about a new school?
