NALSSP Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools

Welcome to the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program (NALSSP) Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools website.

The Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools is a key component of the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program (NALSSP) and is managed by the Asia Education Foundation on behalf of the Australian Government. Through the NALSSP, the Australian Government is providing $62.4 million in funding over four years to increase opportunities for Australian students to become familiar with the languages and cultures of our Asian neighbours, namely China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. To read more about this program, please view the NALSSP Guidelines at: www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/NALSSP

The Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools will provide $6.24 million to Australian primary and secondary schools through three annual competitive funding rounds between 2009 and 2011. These grants will assist schools to promote the teaching and learning of Asian languages and/or the studies of Asia related to one or more of the four NALSSP target countries - China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.

Schools can apply for grants of $20 000 to $40 000.

The Asia Education Foundation, working in collaboration with DEEWR and state and territory education authorities, is responsible for assessing and administering the Grants to Schools. The Asia Education Foundation will support schools successful in receiving Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools funding to manage and report on their projects.

Applications for Round 1 are now closed. Watch this space for news about Round 2.
